ACU of Texas Honored By League City Mayor

A broken down fire house intended to teach children the importance of fire safety sits in an old garage collecting dust with no hopes of firing up its smoke machine. This two-story, portable house simulates a real life fire emergency and teaches children the importance of fire safety. In a chance meeting between an official with the League City Volunteer Fire Department and Jay Coppock, Chief Operations Officer at Associated Credit Union of Texas, Jay learned the fire house hadn’t been working for a while and needed major repairs. Jay took the initiative and recruited employees from Associated Credit Union of Texas and members of the group SERVE to volunteer their time and efforts in rebuilding the fire house. SERVE is a networking group that provides services and assistance for Veterans in the gulf coast area.

After a few months and a lot of manual labor, major repairs had begun. These repairs included large tasks such as: removing the carpet, wall coverings, bolsters above the door ways, the lights, the old bedding and even stuffed animals. To complete the skilled labors of such a large remodel, Yatin Patel and his company Xeonic was contacted and graciously donated their services in order to complete the job. Their work included painting, replacing paneling and rewiring the electrical systems of the fire house trailer.

Now the fire house travels around League City, as kids excitedly run inside to experience the newly refurbished trailer and its upgraded amenities. Associated Credit Union of Texas was recently recognized by Mayor Pat Hallisey and the League City Council for their efforts in remodeling the League City Fire Department’s Fire House at the November 22nd,City Council meeting.
