Last month, one of the world’s largest banks got rid of its only free checking account for customers who don’t or can’t maintain a daily balance of at least $1,500 or have direct deposit. The move has created an uproar, and according to the Chicago Tribune, it leaves few options for low-income customers or those who don’t use direct deposit.

Fortunately, at Associated Credit Union of Texas, we are long-time supporters of fair and affordable banking, and are aware of how our members’ needs evolve. The Credit Union industry has identified several trends that point to a need for affordable banking:

  1. Direct Deposit is not for everyone and for some, it isn’t even an option. Our members want to know that they are able to come in to any ACU of Texas branch, where our friendly team can help them deposit their physical checks.
  2. Many struggle to save and are living paycheck to paycheck. Maintaining high balances in their checking account is often impossible.
  3. Traditional Checking accounts are still required to pay bills and maintain a livelihood.

Associated Credit Union of Texas has several checking account options that have no monthly fees and have convenient benefits. Our members know that not only is their money secure, but that it is theirs. Learn more about ACU Checking Accounts, or join now!
